Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports
“PBIS” is short for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports. This language comes directly from the 1997 reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). PBIS is used interchangeably with SWPBS, which is short for “School-wide Positive Behavior Supports.”

is now accepting applications for kindergarten registration for the 2017-2018 school year. Your child must turn five on or before August 31st midnight, 2012. Be sure to bring in the child’s shot record, original birth certificate, and proof of residency in the Dennis Chavez area.
Quality of Education Survey
The annual Quality of Education survey is mandated by state law to allow parents the opportunity to provide anonymous feedback on their child's education. The results from the survey are published in the BCS Report Card on the PED website.
You are welcome to take the survey in the office on an Ipad or in the library.

Student Drop Off Area
Students must be dropped off in the east parking lot ONLY. Do not drop off students in the Teacher Parking Lot.
If a student is late, a parent/guardian must check the student in the office or he/she will be marked absent for the day.

Any changes in after school transportation arrangements need to be made in writing. For example, you cannot just tell your child that they'll be picked up, rather than riding the bus. The office staff will not deliver messages changing after school arrangements. A note MUST be sent to the teacher.
Per BCS Transportation Department policy, ONLY the principal is allowed to get a student off of the bus once he/she has boarded.
Elementary Grading Scale
1st and 2nd Grades will consist of A, B, C, D, NG (No grade) . A grade of NG will be given if the student is not performing at grade level and receives a 59% or lower. This grading scale is being implemented this year to support the Standards Based Grading Scale/Report Card which will be implemented next year. Standards Based Grades consist of 4=advanced, 3=proficient, 2=nearing proficiency, 1=beginning step.
